… who was God’s first choice…?
Saul … or … David?
… and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel,
that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines ……
And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold
the man whom I spake to thee of, this same shall reign over my people.

God sought out and chose Saul to reign over His people,
… and instructed Samuel to anoint Saul …
so that Saul would be equipped with strength and ability,
… to do what God had chosen him to do … to save His people!

Saul did well and successfully reigned over Israel,
… while he honored God and walked in God’s anointing,
… but when some pressure came …
… instead of waiting on God,
Saul decided to do things his own way …!
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly:
thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee:
for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

Saul thought he would lose the support of the people,
And instead of trusting God, who put him in charge of them …

… and continued to do things his own way …

Saul rejected God and God’s commandments!

Was Saul a good choice? … Yes!
Did Saul live up to God’s choice? … No!
